Carol Ann Eaton Hoyt Farr
Big Flats, NY
Passed away at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the age of 78. Carol was born on December 28, 1941 in Olean, NY; the third daughter of Murl F. and Mary Crowley Eaton of Eldred, PA. In 1949 the Eaton family moved to Westfield, PA where Carol graduated from Cowanesque Valley High School in 1959. After graduating, she worked in the advertising department at Corning Glass Works and married her sweetheart, Edward L. Hoyt, on August 22, 1959. They had four children, and Carol stayed home to devote her time to raising them. In 1972 she started working for Rossettie Pharmacy in Corning, NY and enjoyed 27 years of employment. After 17 years of marriage, Edward L. Hoyt died while on a religious retreat at Notre Dame Retreat House in Canadaigua, NY. On July 1, 1978, she married her soulmate, Roy A. Farr, and blended their family of eight children. In 1981 they were blessed with their own child. Carol and Roy spent 38 happy years together before his death in 2016. Carol was an active member of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY. She was a member of the Social Ministry Committee, taking a lead role with the Christmas Basket program and several Renew committees. She was a Eucharistic Minister at church and enjoyed taking communion to Elcor Nursing Home residents. She led the Lazarus Society preparing funeral luncheons. She enjoyed being a member of the Elmira Soul Sisters Book Club and Cursillo. Roy and Carol loved traveling the U.S. to see many of its national parks, their nine children, her Crowley and Eaton cousins, and life-long friends. She is survived by her children and Roy’s children: Murl Edward Hoyt (Julie), Patrick Lee Hoyt, Katherine Ann Hoyt Mitchell (Jeffrey), James Michael Hoyt, Mary Grace Farr, Barbara Farr Devaney (Jim), Susan Farr Raines (Chip), David N. Farr (Lelia), Janet Farr Fay (Stan), 17 lovely grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She wanted to thank her amazing caregivers: Annemarie Baker, Marlene Wheaton, and Ken Fish. She was also grateful for her wonderful children, who were by her side until the end. The family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan’s Funeral Home, 365 E. Carol, what great memories I have of our times together. We spent many years walking Manny and Buster while we visited and kept up with family events. Our daily walks through the neighborhood kept us connected with our neighbors and friends. We shared many specials times! No one made a better apple crisp or homemade carrot cake than you! I will miss your great smile, wonderful sense of humor and most of all your friendship. Your strong faith and your dedication to your family are great examples for all of us to follow! I love you and miss you!

I will always remember Carol as a warm and caring woman who made a real impact on people.Especially so when she came to the HHDS Food Pantry to sign up our clients to receive St. Mary's Christmas basket. She was so dedicated to that mission and spent many hours doing it! I always looked forward to her coming in and have missed seeing her. My deepest sympathy to her family.
