KANER, Barbara A. (Johnson) Of Big Flats, NY passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2016 in Manahawkin, NJ at the age of 73. Barb was born on August 26, 1942 in Brooklyn NY, the daughter of the late Alva Johnson and Elizabeth Raymond. She is also pre-deceased by her sister Peggy Hiney. Barb is survived by her husband of 53 years Leonard Kaner; children, Brenda (Kevin) Hollenbeck, William Kaner and Rebecca Lee; grandchildren, Sarah, Jenny, Gabrielle, William, Bradley, Meghan, Amanda and Timothy; great grandson, David; sister Marilyn (Richard) Correia and Phyllis Maynard, and many extended family members and her loving sidekick of 16 years Chico. Barbara, a veteran of the US Army graduated from Corning Community College in 1976 with a degree in Nursing. Barb enjoyed her time at Corning Hospital working Maternity and Labor and Delivery, at St. Joseph's Hospital on Day Surgery, and as a Nursing Instructor at BOCES. The family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. @ Rt. 13 on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, between the hours of 6PM and 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at ST. MARY OUR MOTHER CHURCH, Horseheads, NY at 10AM with Fr. Christopher Linsler. Her ashes will be placed in the columbarium wall on Woodlawn National Cemetery with military honors immediately following. The family respectfully requests that memorials be made in Barbara's name to a charity of one's choice.
