Of Horseheads, NY passed away on December 22, 2013 surrounded by his loving family and caring staff. Chuckie was born on September 7, 1952. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles A. and J. Gertrude Burt, and sister Lucille (Gude) Theopheles. Chuckie is survived by his devoted sister Lois May Barton and brother-in-law Richard J. Barton of Horseheads, NY; brother-in-law, James Theopheles of Horseheads, NY, and sister Donna Lee Burt of Leesburg, Florida. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews; Patti Lynn and Robert Turner (sons Zachary and Jesse and families), Marco Jo and Duane Matejka (son Colin and family), Allyson Lee Barton (children Garrett and Kayli), Lisa Claire and John Saltzer (sons Michael and Grayson), Trudi Ann Barton, Laurie Ann and Eric Stoddard (sons Andrew, Daniel, and Michael), Bonnie Jill Ferguson and Carol Miller, and Sherry Lynne and Craig Donnelly (children Grace and Cooper). Chuckie was an integral part of his loving family and active in the community. He attended Fassett School and was associated with Chemung County ARC, Pathways, and most recently Able 2. Chuckie was recognized for his volunteer work through Steele Memorial Library, Meals on Wheels of Horseheads, and by Pathways. He was an avid Star Trek fan that loved bowling, basketball, attending church, and spending time with his family and friends. Christmas was his favorite holiday season and Chuckie celebrated it throughout the year by listening to Christmas music. Chuckie enjoyed the company over the years of two close friends, Harry and Dale, who predeceased him. We will miss his infectious smile and the joy he brought to all who knew him. At the wishes of the family, there will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11 AM at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Horseheads, NY with Rev. Wanda Copeland. The family would like to thank Kevin Sullivan of Sullivan's Funeral Home, the staff at Able 2, and the staff and doctors at Arnot Ogden Medical Center for their compassionate care, comfort, and support given to Chuckie and his family.
