Guyla Elaine (Mullen) Ersly\nAge 90, of Horseheads, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Born June 24, 1928 to Walter and Eldora Remington Mullen in Elmira N.Y. Survived by husband, Walter T. Ersly; daughter, Cynthia Welliver, Laurence Welliver of FL, daughter, Camilla Cruttenden of NY, David Cruttenden of PA; grandchildren, Kimberly Welliver of NC, Scott (Lauren) Cruttenden of PA and Mark Cruttenden (Lisa Grim) of PA; great-grandchildren Makenna and Brady Cruttenden, Alesha, Brittany, Kaitlyn and Joshua Thatcher, and brother Gene (Florence) Mullen of NY, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents and infant daughter Linda Lee Ersly. Guyla and Walt celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary August 7, 2018. She worked at the Elmira Reformatory and later retired as Secretary and Financial Secretary from the First Baptist Church of Elmira of which she was a lifetime member. She served a term as President of the National Secretaries Association in the area. She also was active in the area Baptist's Ministry, serving as Secretary. Both she and Walt were involved in the National Faith at Work, participating in several retreats. Guyla loved entertaining family and friends - no one ever left hungry! You could also always find a card table with a jigsaw puzzle in progress in their home. She took joy in many relaxing days at the cottage ("The ELDO") on Waneta Lake and berry picking around the Finger Lakes. Over the years she enjoyed Square Dancing with Walt in the Soaring Twirlers Club in Horseheads, quilting, embroidery and seeing what was new at The Christmas House in Elmira. Her passion was Christmas, celebrating and decorating. Guyla's family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by everyone at Bethany Manor, especially in Skilled 2 Nursing. You are truly a special and blessed group of people. The family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 2 - 4 with services held immediately following.
