Karl Gehrig, "Papa' Of Horseheads, NY, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the age of 88 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of 43 years to the late Helen Gehrig who passed away November 26, 2002. He is predeceased by his parents, four brothers and his 6 month old son, Pierre, in 1961. Karl is survived by two daughters, Linda (Lee) French and Darlene (Robert) Murray, both of Horseheads; four grandchildren, Andrew French (Fiance Lindsay Bullers), David (Morgan) Murray, Matthew (Katherine) Murray, and Amanda Murray (Fiance Ryan Schoellkopf); and great-grandchildren Liam, Charlie, Carson, and one due in September. He was a great man. His family was his number one priority, but he still had room to love and serve others. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Karl was born and raised in Germany and immigrated to Canada where he met his wife. The family relocated to the United States when Karl was employed as a civil engineering technologist for St. Lawrence Gas Company. After retiring early, he started KarLyle Construction with his son-in-law, Robert, operating in the Elmira/Corning area. Upon full retirement, Karl volunteered for Meals on Wheels and picked up food from local grocery stores to restock St. Matthew's Church Food Pantry. Karl's interests were the accordion, astronomy, surveying, and watching Soccer and Hockey. Calling hours will be at Sullivan's Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 4-6 pm. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 10:00 am. A reception will follow. Donations can be made to Care First in memory of our beloved Father.
